Miami County Detention Facility
The Miami County Detention Facility opened in 2010 and is located at 1104 W 200 N in Peru, the same address as the sheriff's office. The facility has a capacity of 244 inmates. It was built to replace an older and smaller jail that could no longer meet the county's needs. Everyone arrested in Miami County by any law enforcement agency comes through this facility for booking and processing.
When someone is booked at the Detention Facility, staff collect their name, date of birth, address, and the charges they face. Photos and fingerprints are taken. The booking record is created at that point and is immediately public under Indiana law. The 72 hour rule begins at the time of booking. Within that window, the state must file formal charges or release the person. The booking record stays on file after the window closes, regardless of what the courts do with the case later.
